At first, when I was first asked to come to Arizona with a friend and her family, I was nervous. I've always had this fear of planes, which I think comes from watching or hearing about so many of them crashing. I was nervous about it before I even asked if I could go, which made me think that I shouldn't go. But, besides that, I've never been away from my parents. Not really. I mean sure, we went to this camp for a few days but I was only a two hour drive away from them. This time, I was two hours away... if you flew.
I knew though, that if I didn't go I would regret it. If I couldn't go to Arizona, with a friend and her family, how was I going to go off to college on my own? I might be near my parents, or I might be far away, but I'll be in an apartment or a dorm depending. This was just something that I knew I had to do.

When I asked my parents, I was surprised. I expected them to tell me no, but they actually wanted me to go. They thought it would be good for me. I was still a little nervous but once I had the mind set of 'If I don't do this, I'll regret it" and "If I can't do this, how am I going to go off to college?", I was fine. The plane still made me a little nervous, but the first plane ride was fine. I didn't feel very nervous, I was able to look out the window and watch as we landed or as we went across the clouds. The second plane right was a different story though, it was later at night, it was very bumpy, rainy and all of that. I didn't really appreciate that one, but we still got home safely and I enjoyed the trip.
While there we spent majority of the time in the pool and tanning outside. We did go on a 8 mile hike, which I was not expecting. I thought it was going to be a relaxing hike. Don't get me wrong, I love to hike, but I'm not super athletic just yet... it doesn't help that I left my hiking stuff at home. Oops. We were climbing up through rocks, walking on very small paths next to a cliff edge, and other things like that. I enjoyed it more once we were back to where we were staying. It was a fun experience though.
We also went horseback riding, which I had never done. That was really fun too, I've decided I prefer it when we're just walking along a wide path. My horse, Bud, did not like the hills and neither did I. The path was very small. There was a spot were there was nothing on the other side of the trail, this was at a turn and Bud decided to take a fairly wide turn. That scared me. He didn't really want to listen to me once we got to the hill or once we were past it, he was done. There were some areas that it didn't even look like a trail, it was just the side of a cliff that they wanted us to go up. That was a little nerve racking as well, but I did enjoy riding a horse. If it was just a flat area without any other animals or anything like that and the horse was easy going and all that, I wouldn't mind doing it again.
The whole trip, for the most part, was nice and relaxing, it helped that I felt their family accepted me as one of their own. That might sound weird but it made me happy that they didn't act differently around me.
It was differently a different scenery than Washington. Arizona has cactus, palm trees, and lots of rocks. Washing is more rain, giant trees, and mountains.
This was a great experience and was so much fun. I was glad that I was able to do this and did not freak myself out.
