This is one of the last things I made this year, I decided I wanted to try throwing with red clay. I think it was about the same difficulty as throwing with mixer clay. I liked the color so I left the inside that color and glazed the outside black. I think that made the project look darker, but still looks nice. When I was attempting to foot it, it seemed it was off-center so I left it alone, I didn't want to make it worse. I'll work on footing better again next year.
This is another thing I made out of porcelain, this one is a baby bowl for my mom. I had glazed another project similar to this but it turned out a little differently. I put a baby blue type of color and then a black. I did it in rings and then put white over the whole project so it blended together. The last time I put white over black it turned out to be a blue-ish color which I really liked. For my last theme project, I made a bowl and glazed it multi-color with white over it so it would run. Not all of my colors showed up though, there was supposed to be some purple on the inside. I think I needed to put more glaze on this since it didn't really run like I wanted it to. There was some issues with the footing but it still worked. It isn't a very big foot though. For my second theme project I made a small vase and then glazed it with flowers. This might be considered complex in that it's glazing a scene or something on the project. I glazed it with a blue for the rain and sky, a dream green for the grass. There is black in the flowers and as their stem. The flowers are yellow, purple, and pinkish/red. For my theme projects I decided to do "complex" glazes with simple projects. This is a small bowl that I glazed with triangles and lines. I'd considered this complex in that it takes a while to do and could be more considered "more complex" to just glazing one color. The whole thing is glazed with a clear over it. For my multi piece project, I made a small teapot. I made the bowl on the wheel as well as the lid and the spout. The handle is just a round ball of clay. I glazed the inside just a clear. I glazed the lid, spout, and handle black. The body and handle on the lid is a mix of colors. I used white, as a base, then a blue, shadow green, black, army green, and another blue. I put another coat of white on there to help the colors mix, not all of them showed up though. A close up to show colors. This is the double wall I made. I carved out circles in it and some of the circles are made to look like paw prints. The glaze kind of filled them though so it's hard to see. The color is just black with some white on it. I really like how the colors turned out. The glaze a ran a bit more than expected on the inside but not enough that it stuck to the shelf which was good. For my set of three, I decided to make nesting bowls. By the time I went to foot these, they were a little too dry and some were very thin on the bottom. I decided to just round them out more. When throwing the biggest bowl, there was some difficulties so it isn't as nice on the inside like the others but it works. For the glazing, all of the colors are the same except some have white on top to lighten it. I wanted it to become lighter as it went on. In the pictures I took you can't really tell that the colors are lighter as they go on. The littlest bowl is the lightest, the second bowl is a little lighter but it might have been a good idea to put another coat of white on it. The biggest bowl doesn't have any white on it, I wanted that to be the darkest color or the starting color. |
