For my choice project, I decided to do a pinch pot. It isn't that big, I can hold it in one hand. It was made after a person in a band I like who really likes penguins. The eyes were supposed to be more of a blue color but turned out looking black. The beak was supposed to be more yellow, but turned out white. Lastly, the stomach was supposed to be white but turned out blue (I'm not really sure how that happened but oh well!) Besides all of that, I really like how it turned out. I'm really glad the hair worked and didn't end up breaking. The black didn't run a whole bunch which was also great.
This is the wheel altered I made, a bowl with the sides pushed in to create a flower. I glazed it, but didn't like how it turned out so I glazed it again. I still don't love how it turned out but I think it was better than how it turned out the first time. It might have been better though to just leave the coloring how it was and add the black lines to show where the flower is. Again, this project goes along with the theme or idea of nature. I wanted to do one of my glaze inspirations for this project, it's a very simple flower design. On the lid I took the colors used in the flowers and put it on the handle and then painted the rest of the lid black. I really like how it turned out. Rubric: I can create a two piece lidded jar thickness on the wheel that is at least 4" tall and 3" wide. It will be pulled and have a consistent wall.: I would say a ___ here, it has a uniform thickness and is ____ tall and ____wide. I can make a base and a lid that fit securely together and are in proportion: After it dried the lid didn't fit that well together, but it seems to fit better after being fired. It's not perfect though and might not be exactly the right size for this project so I'd give a four here. The lid was trimmed a little but not a lot so I'd say maybe a four or three here. I can glaze the project so that the form is enhanced and there is no glaze on the foot ring. I can glaze the lid and jar together so they don't stick: The project's glaze did enhance the form and there isn't any glaze on the foot ring. The lid and jar do not stick together. I would say a five here. I can design and create a unified project of two pieces where the color, surface design, edge and all sculptural details will enhance the whole by reflecting or contrasting the form: The project is unified. The glazes go well together and reflects the theme I've been going with (which is nature). This is my wheel-hand bowl. The bowl was thrown on the wheel. It was then carved to have kitty whiskers and a nose. I then made some slab ears, or just triangles, and connected those. I really like how this bowl turned out. I debated glazing it like a two-faced cat, but then decided to glaze it all black. It doesn't really have a foot on it because it was either too dry or too thin on the bottom. This is the first tall project I made. It isn't very tall but it is uniform and centered. The color didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it too, but it still looks nice. It was said that it gives the project a rustic feel. Rubric: I can create an evenly centered clay project with uniform wall thickness - between ⅓” and ¼” - on the potter’s wheel with a compressed base. Wall is at least 4” tall: I'm need to check the height but it is uniform thickness and has a compressed base. So, I'd say a four on this depending on the height. I can create a straight walled project that is uniform in shape and form that is taller than it is wide: The wall is straight and a uniform shape. For this, I'd give it a five. I can cut a foot ring that is tangent to the curve of the base and is of uniform thickness.I can compress the lip and the base. The foot rings creates a clear base and the edge creates a clear finish to the project.: I wasn't able to make a foot ring one this one. But, I was able to curve the bottom so it was nicer. The base isn't clear but the ending of the project is clear. I would say a three here. I can glaze the project so that the form is enhanced and there is no glaze on the foot ring.: There was some issues with the glaze but the general idea still comes across and it gives it a rustic feel. I would still give it a three though. I can design and create a unified project where the color, surface design, edge and all sculptural details will enhance the whole by reflecting or contrasting with the form.: The design and color does make a unified project and everything works together. I would give a five here because overall the project looks nice it just needed a few more coats of black. This is the second attempt at a large wheel bowl, the first attempt is still waiting to be glazed. Again, I tried to keep with the ocean type of scene. But, it didn't turn out as planned. It's supposed to be waves on the outside, a variety of shades of blue on the inside. This was the first time glazing with the stain. The foot ring is one of the better one's I've done though. Rubric: 5 This bowl has a uniform thickness. 5 The bowl has a foot ring that is uniform and follows the way the bowl is made. 5 I was able to compress the lip and base. 4, if not a 3, The glaze did not really turn out how it was supposed too. 4 Overall the project is a unified project. The color and way the bowl is made makes sense and reflects an idea. But, I don't believe it's the right height/width. The first project I made was two bowls. I wanted to make bowls that looked similar to the ocean, so varying shades of blue was used. For one bowl I used cobalt blue and white. The other is a mystery blue and white. I think the glaze turned out really well, I was hoping some more white would have shown up and some lighter shades but I still like it. I think next time I try to do this type of glazing I'll add some more white. I thought it would run more than it did so next time I won't keep the glaze so far from the foot ring. For the one that's cobalt blue, it turned out a little more green than I thought it would but it's still nice. Lakes and oceans can have green in them.
The design and art elements used would probably be form and color. It has a uniform form and the second one has a bit of a lip to give it a slightly different shape. As for the color, as said before, it was similar to the ocean. There are different colors in it. Rubric: 5 Both bowls have a uniform thickness. The second bowl made was larger and rounder than the first one made. 5 Both bowls have a foot ring that is uniform and follows the way the bowl is made. 5 I was able to compress the lip and base. 5 The project is glazed so that it enhances the way it looks and there isn't any glaze on the foot ring. 5 Overall the project is a unified project. The color and way the bowls are made makes sense and reflects an idea. For these bowls, I wanted to make it similar to who an ocean might look. |
