This is a little bowl made the other day. It's glazed with a light blue color, supposed to be turquoise but might come out more as a light blue. On the inside, I added layers of white in a hope that it'll make varying shades of blue. It worked once and hopefully it'll work again!
Originally, I was going to put triangles all around the rim, then carve out and paint some more on the bowl itself. But, it took a while just to make two so I decided to make the bowl into a cat. I wasn't able to make eyes that I liked so I decided to go with a more "minimalist" style. I added two triangles for ears and then carved out a nose and whiskers. I forgot to take a picture before putting it on the shelf to be fired, but once it's out I'll have a picture. Since the way this was altered makes it look like a flower, that's how in going to paint it. The bowl has been glazed. If all works out, the inside should be a maroon/purple pink with white on top and yellow in the center. The outside of the flower will hopefully be either aquamarine or a turquoise type color. I liked the light blue color the glaze was but it might not turn out that way. This bowl has been fired but I didn't like how the glaze turned out so I'm going to try to re-glaze it. I wanted it to look more like a flower but the glaze didn't exactly show up how I wanted. This is the bowl before being fired for the second time. Hopefully it'll turn out more like I wanted. I just tried to make it a little more obvious that it was a flower.
This is my first attempt at making a lidded project. It was still too wet to foot on Friday, Feb. 26, but should be able to do that Monday, Feb. 29. I'm not really sure if the little handle will stay but, as of right now (Mar. 1), the lidded project is on the shelf waiting to be fired. This is before being fired. It's a simple design, most of my projects are going with a more nature and minimalist design this year. The colors in the flowers are the same on the little handle. The handle has black lines and the lid is black like the flowers stems. The inside is clear. So, this is my tall project. I made it last night, Feb. 23, and tried to foot it this morning, Feb. 24, but decided it was still a little too wet. It's a lot better than the first one I attempted. The first one was off-center and all over the place, I realize what I was doing wrong and this one turned out much better. I'll attempt to foot it again tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I'll just put it on the shelf and trying footing the next tall project I make. This is the finished project. I was supposed to be black lines but the color didn't go on evenly or turn our very black. It's still nice though, looks almost rustic. I don't know if this penguin can really be considered a pinch pot, but that's probably the closest to what it is. As of right now, it's been fired and is getting glazed. if all works out, it'll be a black penguin with cobalt blue eyes and yellow (blond) hair. The hair will have "highlights" of black for texture. The eyes and beak need to be redone. This is the first attempt at a large wheel bowl, or a large wheel bowl in general. It was okay for a first attempt. The bottom actually broke so there isn't really a foot on it. As of right now, it's drying in my locker and then I'll put it on the bisque shelf. So, this bowl did not blow up when being fired. The bottom did crack but overall it came out fine. I'm waiting for it to cool more and then I will try to glaze it.
