Above I have the "selfie" I took, the outline, and the picture without my "selfie" behind it. First we took a picture and then transferred it into an iPad app. Once in the iPad app, we created another layer on top the photo to draw on. We did this because it allowed us to take away the picture and see our sketch after, it also meant if we messed up we didn't have to erase the background picture as well. We also could have drawn or created a grid on our sketch to help us with proportions. After tracing it in the iPad app, we would grab a piece of rough draft paper and draw out picture on that. It might seem like a lot of extra steps and we could have just taken a picture and skipped the outlining but I found the outlining was really helpful. I found that when I'm having trouble drawing something I either need to turn it upside down or outline it first this helps me to get used to the general shape of what I am drawing.
To the left is a collage of my portrait so far, something seems off about it but I'm not sure what just yet. It might be that the lips are so much darker or the angle I took the photo at. Each one, I believe, is slightly different but not enough that it's noticeable. I was just changing the lips since, like I said before, something seemed off.
This is still the rough draft but now it has been cut up and cubed. The cubes are still a little off.
This assignment is probably one of my favorites so far this year. At first I thought it was going to be really difficult and then I started the assignment and realized it wasn't. In normal portrait drawings the proportions have to be exact, but in this assignment although they still have to be the same, it doesn't seem super noticeable if they aren't when you do cube the drawing.

I'm actually quite proud of this painting so far, all there is left to do is add in a background and a few smaller details. I'm thinking for the background I'm going to put blue skies and clouds to represent my head always being the clouds, or daydreaming.
