Both the Language Arts teacher and myself graded the paper the same thing. In each category a three was given, those categories being as listed:
Content: in order to get a three it would need to be a clear position but may need refining, has a few main points, but not always clearly supporting the thesis, concrete details and/or commentary could have been expanded, ideas are generally essential to the position.
-My concrete details in my opinion were pretty good, given what we were given to work with. I felt they went well with my commentary. I have a habit of steering off my main topic which I can understand how it would say not always clearly supporting the thesis.
Organization: in order to get a three it needs to have a clear opening, mostly a logical sequence of main points, concrete details, and commentary, paragraphing is logical, transitions are used, includes a clear closing.
-The sequence was logical for the most part, it had concrete details and commentary that flowed well and went logically with the order of my paragraphs. I used transitions and it had a clear closing.
Voice: in order to get a three, adequate voice for mode, awareness of audience, some sense of commitment to task, generally appropriate pronoun usage.
-I do not have a very sophisticated vocabulary which makes using appropriate voice for my audience difficult at times, but for the most part I did alright. I showed a commitment to the task i was given and usually I use pronouns appropriately.
Word choice: in order to get a three, exhibits some strong vocabulary, some evidence that the writer is making conscious choices, appropriate language for audience, some unnecessary repetition, but not distracting in nature.
-Although I do not have the most sophisticated vocabulary it is strong enough to show the point I am trying to make. There is some evidence that I stopped, and thought of the best word to use there. The language was appropriate for the audience and there was minimal unnecessary repetition and it was not distracting to the essay itself.
Flow: in order to get a three, it had to have some variety of sentence length, some variety of sentence structure, and the sentence structure does not interfere with the flow.
-The essay I wrote had a variety in sentence length, structure and the structure does not interfere with the flow.
Lastly, conventions it said for a three, errors in capitalization, usage, punctuation, grammar, spelling, indenting, or other conventions are present, but are not frequent and do not interfere with meaning or flow.
-I have a habit of capitalizing words that do not need to be capitalized, so this I understand. I have never been very good at grammar so that I also understand. But, I thought on this essay I did a lot better than usual with punctuation, grammar, spelling, indenting, and the other conventions.
